Privacy Policy
Currents App Inc. · Effective: September 23, 2026
Currents is built on a simple idea: nightlife runs on soft signals, and soft signals should stay soft. Much of what you do on Currents is designed to be aggregated, limited to people you choose, or short-lived. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, who sees it, and the choices you have.
This policy applies to the Currents apps, websites, dashboards, and door tools (the "Platform") operated by Currents App Inc. ("Currents," "we," "us"). Terms like Wave, Room, Hub, Drift, Ride, Trace, Echo, Circle, Whisper, and Pulse are defined in our Terms of Service.
1. The short version
- We don't sell your personal information.
- Precise location is off unless you turn it on, and we use it mainly to detect when you're at a Room.
- Organizers see aggregated audience insights, not a list of who Drifted. They see your name and ticket details only when you buy a ticket to their Wave.
- Your presence is visible only as you choose. Riding, Traces, and Circle visibility follow your settings.
- Many signals expire. Echoes and live presence are temporary by design.
- We never infer sensitive traits like race, ethnicity, religion, or sexual orientation from what you do on Currents.
- Police need legal process. We require a warrant for precise location and message content, and we tell you about requests when we're allowed to.
- By signing up, you agree to receive marketing from Currents. You can unsubscribe anytime (Section 7).
2. Information we collect
Information you give us
- Account details: name, email, phone number, password, birth date or age confirmation, and optional photo.
- Taste and preferences: scenes, moods, genres, and DJs you follow or select.
- Activity and signals: Drifts, Circle connections, Whispers (private messages), Traces, Echoes, and other content you submit.
- Purchases: tickets, orders, and Bless the DJ tips, including amounts and the Wave or Room involved. Card details are collected and processed by Stripe; we don't store full card numbers.
- Support and feedback: messages you send us and survey responses.
- Optional demographics: details you choose to share, such as age range, gender, or neighborhood. These are always optional (see Section 5A).
- Contacts, only if you choose: if you use contact matching to find people for your Circle, the phone numbers and emails in your address book (see Section 5B).
- Business account details (Curators, DJs, Venues): legal and business name, contact details, Room information, lineups, bank and payout information (collected by Stripe), tax information, and any identity verification required for payouts.
Information collected automatically
- Location:
- Precise location (GPS), only if you grant permission, used to detect when you're inside a Room (Riding), unlock in-venue features, and power live features.
- Approximate location from your IP address, used to show your city's Waves and prevent fraud.
- Door and entry data: when your ticket is scanned, including time of entry and the scanning device.
- Device and usage data: device type, operating system, app version, identifiers, IP address, pages and features used, crash and error reports, and diagnostic logs.
- Cookies and similar technologies on our websites, used for login, security, preferences, and basic analytics. Cookies we set include
currents_cityandcurrents_city_picked(your city preference for 30 days),currents_look(an anonymous visitor key so Wave looks are counted once per day, not a name), and session cookies for Enter. These are first-party and marked Secure on HTTPS. We do not use third-party advertising cookies. A notice asks before any analytics pixel loads. We honor Global Privacy Control browser signals (Section 8).
Information from other sources
- Public sources: to create listings, we may collect publicly available information about Waves, Rooms, and DJs, such as public event calendars, venue websites, business directories, and public social media. See Section 9 for how to claim or remove a listing.
- Organizers and Venues: for example, guest list entries or a correction to a ticket holder's name.
- Service providers: such as payment status and fraud signals from Stripe.
- Photos and video from Waves: recorded by Currents at Waves we host or co-host, or shared with us by Organizers (see Section 5E).
3. How we use information
- Run the Platform: create accounts, show Waves, process tickets, orders, tips, and payouts, check people in at the door, and provide customer support.
- Personalize discovery: tailor what you see based on your scenes, moods, DJs you follow, and activity.
- Power live features: detect Riding, generate Pulse and Heat, and show Circle presence you've chosen to share.
- Give Organizers insights: produce aggregated, de-identified reports for Curators, DJs, and Venues (Section 4).
- Communicate with you: transactional messages (receipts, tickets, Wave changes, refunds, security alerts) and marketing (Section 7).
- Keep Currents safe: detect and prevent fraud, bots, location spoofing, signal manipulation, harassment, and violations of our Terms.
- Improve the Platform: analyze usage, fix bugs, and develop features.
- Comply with law: tax, accounting, legal requests, and enforcement of our rights.
4. How information is shared
With other Riders
What others see depends on your settings. By default, other Riders see only aggregated signals (for example, "a lot of people are Drifting this Wave"), not who Drifted. People in your Circle may see your Drifts, Rides, or Traces if you choose to share them. Whispers are visible only to their participants. Public content (such as Echoes you post publicly) is visible as you choose.
With Organizers (Curators, DJs, Venues)
- When you buy a ticket, the Wave's Organizer and its Venue receive your name, ticket details, and entry status so they can run the door and contact you about the Wave.
- When you place an order or book bottle service, the Venue receives what it needs to fulfill it, such as your name, table, and order.
- When you tip, the DJ sees the tip amount and your display name.
- Aggregated insights: Organizers see aggregated reports such as attendance counts, Pulse over time, and audience composition by scene or taste. These do not identify individual Riders, and our Terms prohibit Organizers from trying to re-identify anyone.
Organizers' own privacy practices. Once an Organizer receives your information, it is an independent business, and its own privacy policy governs how it uses that information. Our Terms require Organizers to protect it, use it only to run their Waves, never sell it, and send you marketing only if you've opted in to hear from them. For questions about how an Organizer uses your information, contact that Organizer directly. You can also report misuse to info@thecurrentsapp.com.
With service providers
We use vendors to host data, process payments (Stripe), send email, provide maps and location services, monitor errors, and support analytics. They may use information only to provide services to us.
For legal, safety, and business reasons
- To comply with law, legal process, or valid government requests.
- To protect the safety, rights, or property of Riders, Organizers, Currents, or the public, including in response to emergencies or fraud.
- In connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, in which case information may transfer to the successor, subject to this policy.
With your consent
For any other purpose you agree to.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
5. Location and presence
Precise location is used only after you grant permission in your device settings. You can turn it off anytime; features like Riding detection and in-venue ordering won't work without it.
We use location to decide whether you're inside a Room's area, not to build a history of everywhere you go.
Your presence at a Room contributes to Pulse and Heat only in aggregate.
You control whether your Circle sees you Riding or your Traces, and you can go invisible at any time.
5A. Demographics and sensitive information
We do not infer sensitive characteristics. Currents does not infer race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, health, immigration status, or similar characteristics from your activity, taste, scenes, the DJs you follow, or your location.
Demographics are always your choice. Any demographic information comes only from what you choose to share. You can edit or remove it anytime.
Aggregation limits. Demographic insights shown to Organizers are aggregated and displayed only when a group includes at least 25 people, so no individual can be singled out. We do not provide Organizers with insights by race or ethnicity.
Precise location is treated as sensitive information and used only with your opt-in (Section 5).
5B. Contacts
If you choose to find people from your contacts:
- We upload the phone numbers and email addresses in your address book to match them with existing Currents accounts.
- We don't message your contacts unless you choose to invite them.
- We don't keep entries that don't match an account.
- You can turn off contact access in your device settings and delete uploaded contacts in the app.
5C. Whispers
- Whispers are private messages between their participants.
- We don't use Whisper content for advertising or to personalize discovery.
- Automated systems may scan Whispers for spam, malicious links, and severe abuse.
- When a Whisper is reported, our trust and safety team reviews the reported messages and enough surrounding conversation to understand them.
- Whispers may be disclosed in response to valid legal process (Section 5D) or an emergency.
5D. Law enforcement and government requests
Location and presence data are sensitive, and we treat government requests seriously.
- Legal process required. We disclose information only in response to valid legal process. A subpoena or court order is required for basic account information. A search warrant is required for precise location data and message content.
- Narrowing requests. We push back on requests that are overbroad, unclear, or legally deficient.
- Notifying you. We tell you about a request for your information before disclosing it, unless the law prohibits it, a court orders us not to, or notice would create a risk of harm.
- Emergencies. We may disclose information without legal process if we believe in good faith that someone faces imminent danger of death or serious physical injury.
5E. Photos and video at Waves
We may photograph and film Waves that Currents hosts or co-hosts and use that footage to promote Currents, as described in our Terms. Where practical, we post notice at the entrance and offer a way to opt out of filming. To ask us to stop using footage that prominently features you, contactinfo@thecurrentsapp.com.
Organizers and Venues that film their own Waves are responsible for their own notices and footage.
6. How long we keep information
We keep information for as long as your account is active or as needed to run the Platform, comply with legal, tax, and accounting obligations, resolve disputes, prevent fraud and abuse, and enforce our agreements. When you delete your account, we delete or de-identify your personal information within a reasonable time, except where we must keep it for those reasons.
7. Marketing and communications
When you create a Currents account, you agree to receive promotional and marketing communications from Currents, including emails and in-app messages about Waves, DJs, Rooms, features, offers, and news. If you enable push alerts on your device, some of these may arrive as push alerts.
You can opt out anytime:
- Email: click "unsubscribe" in any marketing email, or change your settings in the app.
- Push alerts: turn them off in the app or your device settings.
- In-app messages: adjust your preferences in settings.
- Text messages (SMS): We send marketing texts only if you separately opt in, for example by checking a box that describes the texts. Agreeing to marketing texts is never required to create an account or buy anything. Reply STOP to any text to unsubscribe, or HELP for help. Message and data rates may apply.
Opting out of marketing doesn't stop transactional messages, such as tickets, receipts, Wave changes, refunds, and security alerts.
7A. Referral and rewards programs (Notice of Financial Incentive)
We may offer credits, free tickets, or other rewards for referring friends or joining promotional programs. When you participate:
- What we collect: your account information, the contact details of people you refer (if you send an invite through the app), and the resulting sign-ups and purchases.
- What you get: the reward described in the program terms at the time.
- Joining and leaving: you join by taking part in the program, and you can stop anytime by no longer participating or by contacting info@thecurrentsapp.com. Rewards already earned may be kept or forfeited as the program terms state.
- Value: we estimate the value of the information collected through these programs as reasonably related to the value of the reward, based on our expected marketing costs of acquiring a new user through other channels.
8. Your choices and rights
- Access, correct, download, or delete your information in the app or by emailing info@thecurrentsapp.com.
- Control visibility of Rides, Traces, and Circle presence in settings.
- Location: turn precise location on or off in device settings.
- Marketing: see Section 7.
- Close your account at any time in settings.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under state privacy laws, such as the right to know, delete, correct, and port your data, and to opt out of sales, targeted advertising, or profiling. We honor these requests regardless of which state you live in. We'll verify your identity before acting, and you may use an authorized agent. You may appeal a denied request by replying to our decision. We won't discriminate against you for exercising your rights.
Global Privacy Control. If your browser or device sends a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal, we treat it as a request to opt out of any sale or sharing of your personal information and of targeted advertising for that browser or device. We don't sell or share personal information for advertising in the first place, but we honor the signal regardless.
9. Listings about you
If you're a DJ, Curator, or Venue and we've created a listing from public information, you can claim it, correct it, or ask us to remove it at info@thecurrentsapp.com. We will verify the request and act promptly.
10. Security
We use administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect information, including encryption in transit, access controls, and payment processing through a PCI-compliant provider. No system is perfectly secure. If we learn of a breach affecting your information, we'll notify you as required by law.
11. Age requirement
Currents is for people 18 and older. We don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we learn we have, we'll delete it. Contact info@thecurrentsapp.com if you believe a minor has an account.
12. International users
Currents operates in the United States, and your information is processed and stored in the United States.
13. Changes to this policy
We'll post updates here and change the effective date. For material changes, we'll notify you in the app or by email before they take effect.
